Context
The goal of the game is to give students experience with security risks, such as those described in the OWASP Top 10 or other software-related threats. Many existing security games are not very educational, are not enjoyable to play, or fail to provide meaningful feedback on the player’s actions. As a result, students do not learn how to behave differently or more securely after playing.
A security game has already been developed, but it needs to be improved so it better fits the target audience and more effectively raises awareness about security risks.
Assignment
You will work on an existing security game intended to make students more aware of software security risks. Your assignment consists of three main tasks:
- Assess the current state of the game
- Analyze the game in its current form.
- Evaluate whether the game effectively increases security awareness.
- Check if players receive clear and useful feedback on their decisions.
- Propose improvements
- Identify areas where the game can better address the needs of the target audience.
- Suggest enhancements related to educational value, player experience, and quality of feedback.
- Focus on improving how the game influences the student’s awareness of security risks.
- Implement your improvements
- Update the game based on your findings and suggestions.
- Ensure the game provides understandable and actionable feedback.
- Test the improved version to confirm that your changes have a positive effect.
What you will learn
- Awareness of security risks such as the OWASP Top 10 and other common threats.
- How to transform educational content into an engaging game experience.
- How to analyze user feedback and learning impact.
- How to improve and implement changes in an existing software product.
