Context
Papenburg Locals works on an attractive and vibrant city centre in Papenburg. The organisation supports entrepreneurs, organises events, stimulates cooperation between businesses and works with the municipality on city-centre development.
Activities include entrepreneur networking events, vacancy projects, the CreativDeck initiative and other projects aimed at strengthening the city centre. The organisation also manages the Papenburg Giftcard, which can be used at more than 100 shops and restaurants.
This is relevant for marketing students because it combines positioning, B2B communication, stakeholder management, content strategy and online visibility in a real regional context.
Student profile
The student should have an interest in marketing, communication, branding, research and stakeholder management. Knowledge of positioning, content strategy, social media, SEO and online marketing is preferred. The student should be able to work independently and translate research findings into practical strategic advice.
Assignment
Papenburg Locals has shifted from city marketing and tourism towards a broader role in city management and business support. The organisation wants to position this new identity more clearly, especially towards entrepreneurs and other B2B stakeholders.
The graduation project focuses on developing a clear positioning strategy for Papenburg Locals, including how Papenburg can be positioned as a meeting place with events, activities and experiences. The student is also asked to advise how this positioning can be translated into the website, social media and other communication channels, including content, tone of voice and channel strategy.
A secondary part of the assignment is improving online visibility, including SEO and AI discoverability. Positioning and strategy have priority over operational marketing activities.
