What is the 5G Student Battle?
The 5G Student Battle is a hackathon competition in which you work in a team to create an innovative solution for a real life challenge in our region, using 5G technology.
After two previous successful editions (2019, 2021), the next edition of the 5G Student Battle is planned for Saturday November 26th and Sunday November 27th, 2022 at the Zernike Campus.
To prepare for the hackathon, four clinics will be organised where your team will gain more insight into 5G technology, design thinking and the Internet of Things. Your team will also receive pitch training, to be able to deliver a great pitch about your team’s solution during the finale. Your team will be supported by a designated team coach from one of the 5G Partners to help prepare and execute the hackathon.
During the hackathon weekend, all five teams work day, night and morning to design a prototype. The devised 5G solution will be presented on Sunday afternoon to a professional jury and the public, who can also vote for the winner. Ultimately, there is a prize pool of € 7,500 to be shared, so multiple teams can win.
Why 5G?
5G is the latest generation mobile internet. It is much faster than 4G, can send much more data, is more reliable and also provides a longer battery life. New applications such as virtual reality and Internet of Things are made possible by the much faster data speeds of 5G. And thanks to 5G, many more devices can be connected with the Internet of Things. Read more about the features of 5G. (in Dutch)

How will the teams be formed?
If you sign up, you will receive an invitation for an online interview (10 minutes) with a member of the selection committee. During this short interview we will discuss (and score) your motivation, availability, background, willingness to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and experience with prototyping.
Taking into account the scores, preferred challenges, education level and background, and multidisciplinarity, the selection committee will form 5 mixed teams (MBO, HBO, WO) of 6 students each. This means that a maximum of 30 students can participate.
The composition of the teams will be announced on October 14th, 2022.
